Coffee

East Africa is known as the motherland to Coffee Arabica, the finest coffee variant.

From Ethiopia it is said that coffee spread around the region and made its way to Italy and Europe in the late 16th century. In 1592, the Italian physician Prosper Alpinus describes the healthy aspects of the "black-bean-drink". In the early 17th century, Europe's first coffee house opened in Venice. From this day coffee started its triumphal procession around the world. Today every person in western countries consumes about 0.2 liters of coffee daily!
